Professional Development Lesson Five: Lesson Plan and Associated Technology Tools
PD Session Plan Five: Express ~ Now is the time to express your learning, by selecting one of the Technology Tools associated with this stage of the Inquiry Process to build/show your student-centered lesson plan. You will also be threading the technologies that you have learned in the past several weeks, throughout your lesson plan. Your lesson plan include all six steps of the inquiry process, and the technology should be appropriately aligned. Teachers Will:

PD Session Plan Five: Express ~ Now is the time to express your learning, by selecting one of the Technology Tools associated with this stage of the Inquiry Process to build/show your student-centered lesson plan. You will also be threading the technologies that you have learned in the past several weeks, throughout your lesson plan. Your lesson plan include all six steps of the inquiry process, and the technology should be appropriately aligned. Teachers Will:
- Construct one unit of your choice, following the above guidelines, to show your understandings.
- Select from the "express" stage of inquiry (please see below), to build a student-centered learning unit, and express what you have learned.
- Complete Performance Task Review Criteria Sheet to self-assess the learning unit.
- Share your unit with your fellow PD members, on the discussion board, and respond to two of the units here.
Technology Resources for the Fifth Stage Express of the Inquiry Process:
- To express knowledge and share, use technology tools such as, Animoto, Thinglink, WordPress, Smore, Voicethread, Prezi, WeVideo, Padlet, Google Slides, Lucidchart, Voki and Powtoon.
- Omeka: According to the site, Educators can "use Omeka to build inquiry-based tasks for students, to create lesson plans with accompanying primary sources, or build learning modules with your team. Features you might like: design themes, Exhibit Builder plugin, Docs Viewer plugin,, tagging, Commenting plugin. Examples: Laurel Grove School Teachers Workshop, Making the History of 1989, Children and Youth in History."
- Accessibility in Teaching with Technology by Stephanie Rosen will inform you about the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and provides links to tech tools and platforms that will help you create Online PD that is accessible and can be used by all students.
- Include tech tools for your students to communicate and ask questions of others from your local and global community, such as Skype in the Classroom and Google hangouts. Learn about Google Hangouts in Education through this Google + Community.
- This project based learning ~ Multi-Media Presentation, Grades 9-12 ~ Self-Assessment Checklist, will help your students assess their own expression of the knowledge they have learned.
- Skype in the Classroom offers virtual field trips, mystery Skype connections, connections with tech industry professionals, discussions with authors and entrepreneurs. This video provides examples of professionals Skyping with students. Reaching out to professions will help students learn about the careers they are interested in and is a vital component of 21st Century learning.
